Westerville's 2026 holiday season moves to the Westerville Community Center at 350 N. Cleveland Ave. while Everal Barn closes for renovation. Nearly every Uptown date also falls one day earlier than last year, so a calendar remembered from 2025 or copied from an old page will be off by a day almost every time. The busiest stretch is the first weekend of December. Between Friday evening and Sunday night, Uptown hosts two parades, a tree lighting, a historic house open house, a 5K and a Messiah sing-along, while Snowflake Castle runs twice daily up the road.
Why the map changed
Everal Barn and Homestead at 60 N. Cleveland Ave. is closed for all of 2026 for a full interior renovation. Westerville Parks & Recreation lists the work as new insulation to protect the historic structure, new flooring, lighting and HVAC, ADA-compliant restrooms, and upgraded warming kitchens on both floors. The city isn't taking reservations through winter 2027 and notes that availability dates could change.
That closure set off the biggest change of the season. The Snowflake Castle FAQ asks the question directly: "Why isn't it at Everal Barn in 2026??" The answer is that the barn is under renovation through winter 2027. Santa's Workshop moves to the multipurpose rooms at the south end of the Westerville Community Center. Families will still paint wooden toys, take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and see the sleigh and trains.
Walnut Ridge Park at 529 E. Walnut St. has been closed since demolition started in April 2026. The plans include realigning Walnut Ridge Run to create a working floodplain, rebuilding the ballfields, adding a full basketball court, and installing new boardwalks. The city's most recent update, dated July 8, 2026, said construction would continue into fall. The playground at Millstone Creek Park is the bright spot. The city's first universally accessible playground closed in February for refurbishment and has reopened with a wheelchair-accessible buddy swing, a chime forest, a creekside nature play area with an overlook, and an edible sensory garden.
A season along North Cleveland Avenue
With Snowflake Castle relocated, much of the city-run calendar now sits within a few addresses of each other on North Cleveland Avenue.
- Heritage Park, 60 N. Cleveland Ave., has the same address as the closed barn. It still hosts the Great Westerville Pumpkin Glow, October 15 to 18, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. A sensory-friendly night runs October 14 from 7 to 9 p.m.
- Westerville Community Center, 350 N. Cleveland Ave., hosts the free Holiday Kids Maker Market for young makers on Sunday, November 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. Snowflake Castle follows from November 30 to December 6, with a Sensory Friendly Snowflake session on Sunday, November 29, from 1 to 4 p.m.
- Westerville Sports Complex, 325 N. Cleveland Ave., sits across from the Community Center entrance. The Westerville Lions Club holds its Rudolph 5K Run/Walk and Winter Fest there on December 6, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
For anyone going to the Maker Market, there's a practical detail. The Community Center's roof project started September 1 and runs in phases through November, and part of the parking lot is set aside for material storage. For Snowflake Castle, the city recommends parking at the south end of the lot and entering from Cleveland Avenue across from the Sports Complex. Tickets are sold online only. The holiday craft area in Multipurpose 5 doesn't require a ticket, and its proceeds benefit the Westerville Senior Association.
Every Uptown date slid back one day
Uptown Westerville Inc.'s "Holidays in Uptown" page is marked for the 2026 season, but its dates match an earlier season's calendar, including Snowflake Castle at Everal Barn. When you compare it with the organizers' own 2026 listings, a pattern shows up. The events kept their weekday, and because the calendar shifted, each 2026 date lands one day earlier.
| Event | Last season's Uptown listing | Confirmed for 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Snowflake Castle | Dec. 1–8, Everal Barn | Nov. 30–Dec. 6, Westerville Community Center |
| Hanby House Christmas Open House | Dec. 2, 4, 6 | Dec. 1 and 3, 7–9 p.m.; Dec. 5, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. |
| City Tree Lighting and Parade of Lights | Dec. 5, 6:30–8 p.m. | Fri., Dec. 4, 6–8 p.m. |
| Westerville Christmas Parade | Dec. 6, 10 a.m. | Sat., Dec. 5, 10:30 a.m. |
| Lions Rudolph 5K and Winter Fest | Dec. 7, 1:30–4:30 p.m. | Sun., Dec. 6, 2:30–4:30 p.m. |
| Handel's Messiah Sing-Along | Dec. 7, 7 p.m. | Sun., Dec. 6, 7:30 p.m. |
| Uptown Ice Sculpture Tour | Dec. 19 | Fri., Dec. 18, from 6 p.m. |
The 2026 dates come from the City of Westerville's tree lighting listing, Good For Westerville's parade page, the Ohio History Connection's Hanby House page, the Westerville Symphony, and Visit Westerville. Uptown Westerville Inc.'s own 2026 listing for the Hanby House open houses uses the corrected dates. As of mid-October, the Uptown Small Business Saturday and Sunday events and the Ugly Sweater Snack and Stroll don't have published 2026 listings, so it's best to wait for those before planning around them.
The first weekend of December, hour by hour
Because each event kept its weekday, the city tree lighting, the community parade, the Lions run and the Messiah sing-along all fall on December 4 to 6. Here's how that weekend lines up.
Friday, December 4
- Snowflake Castle sessions run 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center.
- The city's Holiday Celebration & Tree Lighting starts at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Courtyard, 21 S. State St. The Parade of Lights steps off on State Street at 6:45 p.m., and the tree lighting follows.
- Otterbein's Jazz Ensemble plays Riley Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, December 5
- The Hanby House at 160 W. Main St. opens 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the only daytime session of the Westerville Historical Society's three open houses.
- The Westerville Community Christmas Parade, organized by Good For Westerville, leaves Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. and ends at Walnut Street, less than 16 hours after Friday night's Parade of Lights.
- Snowflake Castle runs 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 4 to 7:30 p.m.
- Otterbein's Choral Ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, December 6

- The Westerville Symphony leads Handel's Messiah Sing-Along at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle, 313 N. State St. That's the same church where Saturday's parade begins.
The Hanby House evening open houses on Tuesday, December 1, and Thursday, December 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. are quieter weeknight options for anyone who'd rather skip the Saturday crowds. Two weeks later, the Westerville Uptown Merchants Association places ice sculptures along Main Street starting Friday, December 18, at 6 p.m. Visit Westerville says they can be viewed through the weekend, weather permitting.
October on State Street before all that
The fall stretch before December centers on Uptown and the Otterbein campus. The Westerville Public Library at 126 S. State St. hosts the free, all-ages Wizards & Wands Festival on October 23 from 4:30 to 9 p.m. as part of Fourth Friday's "Midnight Madness." On Uptown Westerville Inc.'s 2026 theme list, that's the last Fourth Friday of the year, with no November theme listed. Beggar's Night is Thursday, October 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Otterbein's calendar picks up where Fourth Friday leaves off. The music department says its professional and student concerts are free and open to the public. Pride and Prejudice plays the Campus Center Theatre at 100 W. Home St. on October 22 to 25 and October 30 to 31. Otterbein Opera Theatre performs in Riley Auditorium the same final weekend of October. Rock of Ages runs November 19 to 22 at Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall.
A new place to eat between events
There's a new option on South State Street for dinner before the Parade of Lights or a takeout lunch after the Saturday parade. NBC4 reports that Fat Arnie's Provecho opened October 1 at 20 S. State St., in the former DiCarlo's Pizza space. It's a spinoff from the owners of Fat Arnie's Sandwich Shop, the Latin-inspired shop inside Rafters Beer Pub on Indianola Avenue. The opening menu includes empanadas filled with pork, braised beef, chicken or chorizo, the "La Morlaca" sandwich with ham, roasted pork and pickled vegetables, and a mortadella panino with arugula pistachio pesto. The owners say the menu will change over time. It's mainly a takeout and delivery spot with limited outdoor seating. Hours are Wednesday and Thursday 4 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. On the parade weekend, that means it's open Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday until 7.
Next door in the same building, The Blind Pour is still on the way. NBC4 reported in July that longtime friends Chris Beardman and Dino Tripodis are opening a bar with classic cocktails, cold beer and wine, and that it will also serve Fat Arnie's Provecho's sandwiches and empanadas. As of NBC4's October 12 coverage, no opening date has been announced.
